Now 100s of titles are linked in my “geek-friendly” TV series streaming guide!
On June 5th of 2022 (about six months ago), I published my “geek-friendly” (science fiction/fantasy/supernatural horror) TV series streaming guide. I’ve been working on it since then and hope to keep adding to it (both in the number of entries and in the content for each entry).
I recently listed my 200th series…so I can officially say I have hundred of titles listed!
TMC Streaming Guide: Geek-Friendly (SF/F/H) TV
I think it’s one of the most valuable creative things I’ve done recently. It serves two real purposes:
- Helping people find content to watch
- Serving as a reference to these series
For the first one, I list the services I find where you can watch them either free or NAC (No Additional Cost). That obviously changes, so I link to
a free app & website I highly recommend. I’m not connected to them except as a (daily) user. You can set your own preferences, such as the streamers you use, so the link should show you what’s relevant to you. They keep theirs updated more regularly than I do.
On the second part, the reference, I keep adding information to individual listings. Some of the things you may see (it varies on different series)
- cast
- crew
- awards
- fandom/merch/pop culture references
- before the series
- after the series
- a public domain (typically promotional) photo
Chronologically, right now it runs from 1949 (Lighst Out, for example) through 2003 (Miracles, for one). I’ve also started doing just links (not entries) for “future additions” to help you find more current shows, and to simplify my work as the year changes. I’m not counting those in the hundreds!
I’ve gotten a lot of good discovery out of it myself! On many of these series, I’ve already seen every episode before I add them. That might have been a very long time ago, so I get some rewatches out of it, but also some that are brand new to me. Back in the day, if two series were on opposite each other, you could only watch one. While I’m checking listings for the USA, I include shows that originally were broadcast in other countries. Some shows I’ve watched in conjunction with their entries being added:
- The Immortal (a rewatch from long ago)
- The Girl from Tomorrow (new to me Australian time travel kids’ show: I’m watching that right now & enjoying it)
- Early Edition (rewatch)
- Herbie, the Love Bug (I honestly can’t remember if I saw it back in 1982)
- The Collector (new to me: drama, but with some whimsy)
- Jeannie (animated reimagining of I Dream of Jeannie)
For more information on the series…see the guide.
One thing I’d really like to add: I invite anybody who is IMDb listed on a series (cast or crew) who’d like to give me a quote I can share with potential viewers/fans on the page to do so. That would be really cool for me and my readers, and I do think it’s a non-commercial way to reach the audience/researchers. I don’t directly get paid anything for the guide…I just do it for fun and to help!
Let me know if you have specific series you want me to check to see if I can add them (I do list ones I don’t find)! I’d like to add a lot more myself, and hope to do so. You can do that by commenting on this post or on my Twitter feed.
Enjoy!
