MBF Friends & Family, During this highly contested election season, a flood of information about Haiti has been circulating in the news—and, unfortunately, on social media. Regardless of political views or agendas, we believe it is important to provide you with a direct and up-to-date report on the situation from our ministry partners in Haiti. As of this morning, you can trust that this information comes straight from our staff and partners on the ground in Léogâne.
According to recent reports, over half of Haiti’s population is struggling with hunger, and only a quarter of the hospitals are functioning properly. Violence from armed gangs continues to plague the country, with nearly 600,000 people displaced from their homes. Tragically, many health professionals have also been affected by the violence.
Despite these challenges, MBF’s partners in Haiti, including Hôpital Sainte Croix, Darbonne Maternal & Child Health Clinic, and the FSIL Nursing School, remain resilient. They continue to provide essential care to thousands, from delivering maternal healthcare to offering scholarships and education to young men and women. Their commitment to serving the most vulnerable is truly inspiring.
One powerful example is the story of Souffrant, a mother whose husband cannot access medical care due to extreme poverty. She recently lost a family member to gang violence while fishing for food. There’s also Melissa, a refugee from Gressier, who is unsure if her husband is even alive. These stories remind us of the real and immediate needs in Haiti and the urgency of your ministry there. |
